Born in Aleppo to Armenian parents who fled the genocide, raised on an American compound in Saudi Arabia and then in Boston and Houston before moving on her own to Los Angeles, Azniv Korkejian, aka Bedouine, has forged her artistic identity in the image of her wandering, nomadic upbringing. Her eponymous 2017 debut album was hailed as a masterpiece, shimmering with longing and anomie and imprinted with the sonic traces of her musical heroes, folk storytellers from Carole King and Nick Drake to Townes Van Zandt. In the above video, shot at Further Timber Cove: The Expanding Artist, Bedouine performs a new unplugged version of her last single from the album, “When You’re Gone,” on a bluff just outside Timber Cove, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
