Architecture Row house
The most authentic hotel in the entire downtown area, The Flat Iron boasts such architectural treasures as a hand-cranked antique elevator, a basement speakeasy, and an illuminated star on the roof that echoes the star erected in 1929 as a symbol of hope just as the Great Depression was beginning. Here, spaces as true to the building’s original blueprints, with terrazzo flooring, marble in the lobby, and even transom windows over guest doors.
Interior design Mey & Co
The hotel’s historic lobby features strong, geometric lines and a grand marble stairwell wrapped in a two-story mural that’s a pure Asheville fantasia of mountains, dancing animals, and coy Easter eggs. The color palette throughout the hotel features warm tones, including deep greens, browns, and pops of red. Inspired touches include brass fixtures, Art Deco walnut case goods, Anni Albers-inspired carpets, and rich leathers and upholstery. The result is one-part swanky, one-part cozy, and 100 percent historic downtown Asheville.

Luminosa Italian eatery
Steeped in a hyperlocal approach to sourcing and seasonality, Luminosa presents such specialties as wood-fired pizza topped with ramps, peaches, or eggplant.

Red Ribbon Society Classic cocktail bar
Set in a former boiler room with the original door preserved, the hotel’s Red Ribbon Society is reached through dimly lit corridors that lead to a completely retrofitted cocktail bar.
