Architecture Stonehill & Taylor
The Whitby’s limestone façade and steel-framed windows are perfectly in tune with the surrounding architecture.
“With hotel architecture, we want to create buildings that support the hotel’s function as a gathering place and cornerstone for communities,” says architect Paul Taylor. “The Whitby has a quiet, understated architecture that fits seamlessly with the neighborhood, but the generously sized windows and numerous terraces offer glimpses of the activity and life within.”
Interior design Kit Kemp
The Whitby is a celebration of contemporary art and design. Kit Kemp’s inimitable interiors showcase her carefree spirit.
An enveloping mood of comfort emanates from the bedrooms thanks to fabric-lined walls, an enchanting mix of sumptuous textures and hues, and Kemp’s signature touches, such as oversized headboards, some beautifully embroidered and embellished by the artist Kumi. Kemp’s own fabric designs have been used throughout, alongside elegant rugs, ceramics, artworks, and cushions. Here, too, you will discover original works by numerous celebrated artists, including Joe Tilson and Ramiro Saus.
