Adelboden hasn’t succumbed to the ostentatious glitz and glamour associated with many other Swiss ski and wellness resort areas; instead it offers toned-down and top-notch indulgence in its many forms. Apart from the impressive natural surroundings, including the Engstligenalp Plateau, the town boasts skiing in the winter and just about any summer sport, as well as copious fine dining options, a sophisticated (read: reserved, not wild) drinking scene, and a gorgeous town church with glassworks by Augusto Giacometti. A sundown cocktail overlooking the picturesque Engstligen Falls is on the “must-do” list afterhours, while the day should be reserved for making the most of the fairly uncrowded slopes and fantastic views of the Engstlige River’s valley.
