The hotel’s two intersecting perpendicular structures command attention yet also blend naturally into the surrounding landscape.

Architect João Almeida, of Gabinet Risco, enlivened the main section of the hotel with “waves of lace”—moveable shutters designed to protect the rooms from the bright sun. The simple composition and linear volume of the two-story structure helps highlight the views from the city to the river.

Exotic and minimalistic, each room features an artistic representation of places Portuguese explorers have traveled.

Glass walls and contemporary furnishings soften the overall tone, while monochromes feature throughout. Communal spaces see vibrant wall panels depicting scenes from the Orient.
