Interior design Seshan Design
Driven by the concept that design has the power to unite, the interiors inspire guests and locals to settle in—“Luma” means home in the Bajau language.
With its expansive sofas in jewel-toned greens and oranges, a rotating collection of local art, playlists curated by Sabahan musicians, and coffee by local roastery Crack Inc., there are ample reasons to linger in the lobby. Upstairs, guestrooms are serene and welcoming, with Japanese-inspired lines, light oakwood floors, and bespoke wardrobes made from Sarsi wood. Pivoting panels in the green-tiled bathrooms offer a view to the skyline and, from the higher floors, a stretch of sea in the distance.
Architecture Seshan Design
Local firm Seshan Design transformed a former office building on the city’s main stretch into a fresh, vibrant space that highlights natural elements.
A signature spiral staircase made from local Sabahan wood stands in the lobby like a great tree. Each step is inlaid with white marble to symbolize the outside world melding with Sabah. Concrete floors, polished by a local artist, are a nod to the city’s towering Mount Kinabalu. The western-facing façade, accented with rose gold details, is set aglow each evening by the stunning Sabah sunsets.
