Architecture Original building
Due to the building’s historical significance, the architects vowed only to make structural changes for reinforcement purposes and left the exterior in its original state. Previously, the house was used as a Ryotei—a traditional Japanese restaurant—and a geisha practice room.

Discover a Sento-style bathroom complete with a Hinoki wood bathtub, a fireplace by Tendo Mokko, a statement floor lamp by Serge Mouille, tea sets by Tom Sachs, and furniture by Stephen Kenn and Miguel Milá. A rich plethora of materials and textures abound throughout, including mortex, terrazzo, stucco, and black wood. Works by both local and international artists abound.

We are dreaming about traveling through Japan but find that it’s also become important to ask how and why. Inspired by the unique Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, we decided to peer into this captivating land through this special lens.
