Location
Driven in part by ecotourism and appearing more and more on travelers’ where-to-go Hot Lists, Antigua is a UNESCO world heritage with a slow and thoughtful pace to life that’s rich in culture. Surrounded by a lush landscape and volcanoes, this small, stylish city keeps much of its Spanish colonial influence, with low-rise buildings and baroque architecture. Built in the 17th century, the Santa Catalina Arch is one of the city’s most distinguishable landmarks. The Iglesia de la Merced is perhaps the most famous and photographed church in Antigua. Cerro de la Cruz, or Hill of the Cross, is one of Antigua’s most famous points of interest and presents sweeping views of the city and the Agua volcano. Parque Central de Antigua is a broad and beautiful plaza surrounded by classic colonial structures.
