Monochromes fly in the face of Thessaloniki’s ancient architectural heritage, while spaces are both imaginative and functional.
By designing an extravagant luxury hotel that doubles as a top-notch art gallery, architect Tasos Zeppos (who also built the Fresh Hotel Athens, a member of Design Hotels) has achieved notoriety. For the exterior, he placed an emphasis on monochrome contrasts, with sharp lateral beams pointing towards the industrial harbor. Inside, the focus is more on the areas that give masterpieces the space to shine.

While minimalistic in design, furnishings are fashioned from high-end materials that compete for attention with artwork in many forms.
The designers have worked hard to ensure that The Met’s 212 guestrooms and suites blend high-end materials with inspirational art. There are solid wenge floors leading to marble- and Corian-built bathrooms, and black-and-white originals by German photographer Ralph Baiker hang near expansive glazed panes that offer views of the harbor. In the Long Bar, a 22-carat gold-plated wall shines.
