Interior design Vana Pernari Architecture Studio
Walnut, chestnut, and bamboo combine with rattan, ceramic, stone, and brass to create a palette of wood tones, mustard yellow, copper-red, blue, green, and orange that imparts a relaxed, boho mood in the bright, airy rooms. Murals artistically bring the nature of Crete inside the living spaces and serve as main focal points for the interior design.
Architecture Vana Pernari Architecture Studio
The hotel’s modernist structures were constructed in the late 1980s by Antonis Stylianides, who once worked with Bauhaus legend Walter Gropius. Phāea Cretan Malia was fully renovated in 2018 by Vana Pernari, who used assorted colors, materials, and styles from multiple design eras, while still maintaining a strong Cretan identity.

Kids’ corner Little explorers
Little ones will love the children’s kitchen for baking activities, the play area, an environmental awareness space, and a performance area for dance and theater. Outside, one finds a playground and a small organic garden for kids, who can participate in the hotel’s green program. A separate hut doubles as a quiet space for teenagers who want to read and relax.
Experiences Rooted in the local scene
Master the art of Cretan bread-making by producing fresh, authentic treats from a firewood oven. Enjoy wine and olive oil tastings that are paired with dishes that highlight the island’s authentic flavors. At Phāea Farmers Feast, the chef redefines the traditional farm-to-table concept by bringing the table directly to the farm. There are also textiles exhibitions celebrating Cretan heritage, beach picnics, cinema under the stars, and many more experiences to dive into.
Crete’s culinary heritage Mouries: Rooted in authenticity
The hotel prioritizes organic, locally grown ingredients, many of which come from its Phāea Farmers program, ensuring the freshest flavors while supporting and educating local farmers. Every dish reflects the hotel's commitment to the environment and the island’s rich traditions, offering a truly authentic and sustainable culinary experience that connects you to the land and its people. At Mouries, Chef Lefteris Iliadis and his team draw from the hotel’s garden, wild herbs, and sustainably sourced meats and seafood to craft dishes that honor tradition.

Almyra Italian Flavors
At Almyra, Mediterranean themes take a delightful turn toward Italy. Perched at the northernmost tip of the property with sweeping sea views, the restaurant offers authentic Italian dishes made with sustainably sourced, local ingredients. Here, summery salads, fresh local fish, hand-rolled pasta, and creamy risottos set the stage, while pizzas emerge from the outdoor stone oven, their aroma carried by the warmth of firewood flames.

Mezze Pool-side
Set in a beautiful outdoor poolside space, MEZZE features Mediterranean-style decor, cosy lounges, and a large communal table that fosters connection. At the heart of the experience is the open kitchen, where enticing scents of Levantine-inspired plates fill the air, creating an atmosphere of warmth and culinary excitement.
