Using standout furnishings by some of their favorite design brands, the visionaries behind the hotel focused on creating spaces that showcased contemporary art while also making the most of the mansion’s original features, such as open fireplaces and delicate plasterwork details.

On a manicured plot in Burgundy sits an ivy-wrapped mansion, topped by a tower, a navy-blue roof, and brickwork chimneys.

Originally built in the 17th century, Château de la Resle sits proudly amid two hectares of carefully landscaped gardens complete with glasshouses, orchards, and an inviting pool. The building retains many of its original architectural features, including sweeping staircases and a fort-like round tower with a conical roof. Throughout, windows with wooden louvers let natural light flood in.

Château de la Resle has a gym and a heated outdoor swimming pool. Guests can also enjoy a sauna, a steam bath, and a massage.

History Piece by piece

The château was painstakingly renovated, section by section.

The château hadn’t been lived in permanently since WWII. First, the main building was carefully renovated. Then came the old caretaker part of the house, which extends off the château. Finally, the pool and spa area, with it’s chef’s kitchen, was addressed. The result: The hotel came into being organically, piece by piece by piece.

The hotel serves (and sells) its own wine, while breakfast is an indulgent affair of organic and local products.

Château de la Resle buys bulk items, separates waste, and uses reusable packaging when possible.

Energy

Double glazing, renewable energy, and energy management are used in the old building.

Water

The château produces clean drinking water to reduce transportation and glass consumption.

Products & Produce

Food suppliers are local and organic and consumption of animal protein is reduced (e.g. no meat at breakfast).

Culture

The château is home to a large collection of contemporary art, featuring artists that work in a planet-conscious way. This is always an invitation for a conversation with guests.

Recreation

There are electric bikes for guests to use, private yoga sessions, restorative massages, and meditation sessions.

Accessibility

As a car is needed to reach the countryside, electric cars can be charged on-site. While on property, guests are encouraged to bike and walk rather than drive.
