Monochromes are challenged by bursts of color, with contemporary artwork playing off the hotel’s midcentury furnishings.
Guestrooms and apartments feature straightforward, streamlined pieces by Cappellini and Ligne Roset in a palette of black, white, and lipstick red. In addition to a collection of impressive midcentury furniture, original contemporary art is integrated into the rooms, public spaces, and hallways of the hotel.
Architecture Günther Domenig
A playful use of light and shadows creates stark contrasts that mimic the hotel’s structural linearity.
A winner of the Austrian State Prize for architecture, Günther Domenig combines reflective surfaces, inwardly inclined planes, and exterior staircases at Augarten. A feeling of luminosity and transparency prevails throughout the structure due in no small part to his careful eye for light and proportion. The architect claims, “I am to be equated with an artist—an artist is free.”
