Introducing Designed to Stay, The Design Hotels Book

Words Steph WadeDate 11 November 2025

Discover our brand new print publication Designed to Stay, a celebration of our iconic hotels and what sets them apart.

A great hotel is one not measured by amenities or accolades, but by its impact: the subtle impressions that linger long after the stay has come to an end. It’s the product of both intent and attention; the scent, the texture of a wooden table or door frame, the way morning sunlight creates poetic shadows across a room. These elements work together with precision, grounding us in a specific moment and heightening our awareness of the space.

Designed to Stay brings together the properties in our portfolio that are defined by this clarity of vision. Each one shows how thoughtful design can do more than offer comfort; it can sharpen perception and emotion, and create experiences that stay with us.

In a new editorial direction, this publication classifies our hotels not by geography—but by atmosphere, across four sections. “Space as Story” explores spaces conceived as narrative performances. “Natural Resonance” examines a luxury rooted in the elemental dialogue between design and landscape. “Attuned to the City” redefines the urban retreat as a sophisticated pause within the city’s rhythm. Finally, “Rooted in Place” reveals hotels that function as living archives of their immediate cultural context.

To illuminate these themes, we have invited an ensemble of singular voices to create written reflections across each category: architects and designers Oliver Jahn, Alexis Dornier, and Eleni Petaloti; cultural observers Kissa Castañeda, Christina Ohly-Evans, and Sarah Owen; and taste-makers Arman Naféei and Nicola Leigh Stewart. These essays sit beside the hotels, offering shifts in tone and tempo that provide lenses to consider what makes a stay unforgettable.

“Architects and interior designers are directors. Rooms are their stage, their canvas. It is rarely just about functionality but about crafting atmosphere”

Oliver Jahn

We also invited the artist Monja Gentschow to create a series of large-scale acrylic paintings, spanning from mountain scenes and urban cityscapes to the smaller details that comprise a great hotel stay. The result is three vibrant artworks collaged together to represent the world of Design Hotels.
