The Originals
In the heart of Milan’s historic center, fashion designer Vincenzo de Cotiis transformed a 19th-century palazzo into a destination that is both style- and eco-conscious. The hotel has an ever-growing list of sustainability measures that includes purchasing organic ingredients for the restaurant, using refillable bottles for toiletries, and logically allocating rooms to minimize energy use. STRAF aspires to become a leader in the hospitality industry, working to raise awareness and educate guests on more responsible practices. The hotel is also a principal sponsor of the non-profit association IN-VITA, which works to rebuild wells in rural villages in Mali that have limited access to water. Proceeds from each guest’s stay directly contribute to the project.
We spoke with the team at STRAF to learn the latest on the hotel’s conscious journey.
Anything that can be done to protect the environment must be done. We've started with the gradual but definitive elimination of plastics in the hotel, smartly managing the use of chemical products, and saving energy through the proper management of thermo-hydraulic systems and migrating to LED lamps. We are always open to suggestions and happy to listen to advice, since we firmly believe that each one of us can do a lot by doing very little!
Through careful public relations, but most all by collecting updated information on the needs of the local community and creating opportunities to assess the cultural environment, host meetings, and foster moments for collecting information.
The excessive use of plastic, which we fight by gradually replacing plastics with easily disposable raw materials.
