Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is a radical example of biophilic architecture by renowned Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan and his Studio MK27. The delicate design allows the landscape to speak the loudest, inspiring guests to connect with their natural surroundings. Expansive views invite visitors to step outside and take a closer look; large-scale artworks scattered around the island spur exploration. Patina Maldives has ambitious goals to tackle marine pollution, implement coral propagation, and ultimately establish the Fari Islands as the gold standard in sustainability in the Maldives. To that aim, the hotel features the first solar-powered kids’ club, recreation center, and dive center in the Maldives. To help inspire the next generation of ocean awareness, PADI dive certification is offered for free to Maldivian children.

“Patina Hotels & Resorts’ interpretation of perpetuality is rooted in our belief in effecting and empowering lasting change—starting with nurturing sustainable values in tomorrow’s travelers.”

Conscious Hotel Principles

Architecture

Architecture

Patina Maldives is a radical example of biophilic design. During construction, energy consumption was reduced by an estimated 12% through sustainable practices.

Waste

Waste

Locally sourced, biodegradable, and reusable materials were used wherever possible. The resort has its own bio-digesters for composting organic waste.

Energy

Energy

Patina is the first resort in the Maldives with a 100% solar-powered kids’ club, recreation center, and dive center all powered by Swimsol offshore solar panels.

Water

Water

All drinking water on the island will also be produced and bottled in-house with on-island water bottling plant, Nordaq.

Products

Products & Produce

The resort has built an on-island organic permaculture garden, which guests are encouraged to explore, where fresh vegetables and herbs will be cultivated.

Culture

Culture

Locals and guests from surrounding islands are invited to experience the art on the island.

Recreation

Recreation

Patina has brought a team of experts to bring disruptive creativity to sustainable guest programming. For example, there will be regular beach clean-ups both on-resort and on neighboring local islands. For every stay, 10kg of marine plastic will be collected, cleaned, and repurposed into Parley ocean plastic material.

Healthyworkplace

Healthy Workplace

Set on a neighboring island, The Fari Campus was purpose-built for staff and designed to foster a sense of belonging and community with a range of recreational facilities, comfortable living quarters, and a vocational training program.

Accessability

Accessibility

The resort’s energy-positive ethos is demonstrated by participation in global carbon sequester programs that neutralize its carbon output.
